Founded in 2020 as a social enterprise, Mindstars is committed to helping tackle the mental health crisis our children are facing.
We are developing one of the UK's first interactive educational mental health technology apps for children to help de-stigmatise and educate children on mental health and wellbeing age appropriately.
We are also developing our own mental health educational workbooks featuring our main Mindstars - Professor Finx and his friends throughout the series. These will be available to purchase on our web store along with our Mindstars merchandise. In the future we also hope to deliver workshops in primary schools using our own materials.
Profits from the app and online store will be re-invested into the business to continuously develop the app and other Mindstars projects.
Mindstars believe educating our children in mental health and wellbeing from an early age will help to break down the stigma that ours and past generations have struggled with.
Prevention is better than a cure!
The latest statistics from the government show that 1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder in the UK which is approximately 3 children in every classroom. Less than 1 in 3 children with a diagnosable mental health disorder go on to get treatment within a mental health service.
In a survey that Mindstars conducted 99% of parents believed earlier mental health education in primary school would be beneficial.
If we start with age appropriate interventions earlier and educate children about mental health, wellbeing and self care before they struggle with it, we will be saving and empowering our future generations.
This would also in turn relieve the pressure our NHS is facing if we can help and educate enough children before they get to crisis point and need treatment.
My name is Rebecca and I'm the founder of Mindstars. I started my career in mental health 6 years ago. Through passion for mental health, experience as a counsellor and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, I saw the need for alternative ways to better the children's mental health sector. The NHS services are stretched to their limits due to lack of government funding, an increase in referrals and public demand.
I have struggled with mental health from a young age and still do from time to time. Until now this hasn't been public knowledge. Only those closest to me have known, but, it would be hypocritical of me to start this without being open with you all about my own struggles. I want to open up the conversation of mental health and be apart of ending the stigma attached to it, so that our future generations do not have to suffer in silence like so many do today.
It was my own experiences with mental health that led me into a career as a therapist. I wanted to help others that struggled with the same things I had struggled with. With a combination of education, support and therapy I managed to get to a place where my feelings of self doubt, shame, anxiety and depression are manageable and they no longer consume me. I practice the techniques I have learnt over the years on a daily basis. I continue to challenge myself to becoming my true self and not have anxiety, depression, shame or low self esteem steer my direction in life.
Mindstars was selected for the 'Back Her Business - Bring It 2020' competition which is run by Natwest and Crowdfunder!
The concept of the competition is to help women in business raise money and build their skills, helping them to get their business idea off the ground. We have been receiving coaching and support from their team helping us to build our crowdfunding project. Not only are we open to crowdfunding from our supporters, but we will be eligible for further grant funding from Natwest and in the running for a £10.000 cash prize towards the project, so we need your support now more than ever!
Mindstars will be investing the money raised from the project into the cost of developing of our interactive educational app.
Any funds received, along with profits from our online store will go towards the development of our educational technology and other upcoming Mindstar projects to help tackle the Children's Mental Health Crisis in the UK.
